Overview

EyeRest is a browser extension that helps you follow the 20-20-20 eye rest rule. We take your privacy seriously and have designed this extension to require zero personal data.

What Data We Collect

We collect NOTHING.

EyeRest does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information. No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry, no user accounts.

What Data is Stored Locally

The extension stores the following data only on your own device using the browser’s local storage API:

Your timer preferences (interval, sound on/off, active hours)
Your break statistics (breaks taken today, streak days, total breaks)
Your dark/light theme preference

This data never leaves your computer. It is not sent to any server.

Permissions We Use and Why

alarms — to schedule the periodic eye-break reminders
storage — to save your settings and statistics locally
tabs — to identify the active tab so we can show the break overlay on it
scripting — to inject the break overlay onto the current webpage
notifications — to show a browser notification when it’s time for a break
**host_permissions: ** — required to show the break overlay on any webpage you are viewing

We do not read, modify, or transmit the content of any webpage. The host permission is used solely to inject the visual break overlay.

Third-Party Services

EyeRest contains a “Buy Me a Coffee” button that links to PayPal. Clicking this link takes you to PayPal’s website. We do not control PayPal’s privacy practices. If you click the link, please review PayPal’s privacy policy.

We do not use any analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party SDKs.

Children’s Privacy

EyeRest does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever update this policy, the “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
